President John Dramani Mahama has been urged by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to launch a comprehensive probe into what he refers to as a "Rambo-style" invasion of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta's private residence.
The former Attorney General emphasized that the breach of Mr. Ofori-Atta's rights cannot be addressed by an apology alone.
On Tuesday, February 11, while Ofori-Atta was abroad for medical reasons, heavily armed security personnel allegedly broke into his residence without a search or arrest warrant.
Prior to the media's release of CCTV footage, which revealed the scope of the operation and refuted Special Prosecutor Lawyer Kissi Agyabeng's assertions that Ofori-Atta orchestrated the raid to win over the people, the majority side in Parliament first played down the problem.
Martin Amidu rejected the storyline put up by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and stressed in a statement released on Friday, February 14, that the CCTV film provided compelling evidence.
“The burden is now upon the President of Ghana to break the ice by admitting that he ordered the invasion or that it was conducted on his blind side, with demonstrable assurances to the public of prosecuting all the culprits involved,” Amidu wrote.
He also attacked Parliament's response, calling it an effort to minimize a grave violation of a citizen's fundamental human rights.
He claims that without a thorough investigation to hold the offenders accountable, the National Security Coordinator's pledge communicated on his behalf in Parliament that similar instances would not recur is insufficient.
“The President must walk his talk by ensuring that all those involved in this despicable invasion are brought to trial before the ordinary courts in accordance with the due process of law. Ghana must reset forwards and not backwards to yesteryears,” Amidu stressed.

Amidu is an example to the younger generation. I doff my hat for such an intelligent man from the north. Age the elders say is synonymous to wisdom but Joel Savage is a betrayal to this old sayings. Joel Savage is synonymous to bitterness, hatred, division, rancour and foolhardiness.
