Prof. Ransford Gyampo appointed Acting CEO of Ghana Shippers Authority

The John Dramani Mahama-led government has appointed Prof. Ransford Edward Van Gyampo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers' Authority (GSA).

His appointment marks a shift in leadership at the Authority, as he takes over from Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the Akufo-Addo administration in December 2023.

A respected academic, Prof. Gyampo is a seasoned political scientist and professor at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department. He has built a reputation as a vocal commentator on governance, democracy, and political reforms in Ghana. Over the years, his research and advocacy have focused on electoral reforms, political accountability, and youth engagement in governance. His candid opinions and critiques of various governments have made him a well-known public intellectual.

Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Gyampo pursued his higher education at the University of Ghana, earning a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree, and later a PhD in Political Science. He has held several academic and administrative positions, including serving as the Secretary to the University of Ghana's Political Science Department and as a Research Fellow at the Governance Unit of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA). His work has contributed significantly to shaping policy discussions in Ghana.

His appointment as Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers' Authority was formally confirmed in a letter delivered by Dr. Calistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President. Sources indicate that Kwesi Baffour Sarpong has been directed to hand over responsibilities to Prof. Gyampo without delay.

With his background in governance and policy analysis, Prof. Gyampo is expected to bring a strategic approach to the Ghana Shippers' Authority, focusing on enhancing efficiency in trade facilitation and strengthening Ghana’s shipping and logistics sector.
