President Mahama has been praised for making appointments many deemed to be competent enough to heal the economy. Many have advised that he maintains his style of governance because he is getting everything he does right.
The praise for President Mahama is not however extended to the Majority Caucus of Parliament, particularly the Vetting Committee. Many say the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Committee, Bernard Ahiafor is weak in steering affairs, allowing the opposition to always have a field day.
Truth is, the government is still fresh and it is too early to vent our spleen on the NDC and the Majority Members of Parliament. The great NDC is trying to find a firm stance that will afford it the opportunity to serve Ghanaians the best way possible. In trying to do this, must they be weak, wicked (arrogant), or none?
It is very clear the past government was voted out because the Former President, Nana Addo and many of his appointees were seen to be arrogant. For instance, chiefs were forced to stand and greet President Nana Addo despite their ill health. Critics of then government were visited with arrests, insults, intimidation, prosecutions, humiliation and sometimes death.
The NDC is seriously taking a cue from this and would not want to be described as wearing the undesirable shoes of the previous government. President Mahama has warned that appointees must not be arrogant to Ghanaians and each and every member of the NDC must take this serious.
While accepting that members of the NDC must not be arrogant, it is not also proper to be weak. Those occupying leadership positions are encouraged to demonstrate that they are not weak and that they can stand up to match the ill motives of elements in the NPP.
The leadership of the Majority Caucus must be firm in their dealings with the opposition NPP. They do not wish well for the NDC and they must not be allowed to exploit the soft hearts of the Majority Caucus leadership.
If what they doing now is allowed to be continued, trust for the NDC will get lost in the eyes of Ghanaians. Ghanaians did not vote for the NDC to be weak or wicked but to offer the kind of leadership that will make Ghana prosper and great again.
