Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister-Designate for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has pledged to prioritize the development of local economies across all districts in Ghana if approved by Parliament.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 21, he emphasized the constitutional mandate of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to drive economic growth. He assured that his administration would work collaboratively to achieve this goal.
“Development of the local economy is one of the core mandates of the MMDAs,” Mr. Ibrahim noted.
He added, “Once given the nod, together with my colleagues and all former ministers of local governance, regardless of their party affiliations, we will team up to ensure strategies and policies are implemented to support the vision of His Excellency, the President, to improve the local economy in every district.”
He also highlighted the need to leverage the unique natural advantages of different districts to maximize their economic potential, stating, “We will use comparative natural advantages of the various districts to enhance economic activities and development.”
The minister-designate assured the committee of his commitment to engaging stakeholders and implementing innovative approaches to ensure sustainable economic growth at the local level.
