President John Dramani Mahama has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to refrain from attacking public installations and to demonstrate that they are different from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at a Presidential Dinner on Wednesday, January 8, President Mahama reflected on the incidents of 2017 when NPP supporters reportedly attacked government offices and public facilities following their electoral victory.

He cautioned NDC supporters against repeating such actions, urging them to rise above the violence.

“I know that in 2017 that is what the NPP did after we lost that election. As soon as we handed over, they started to attack government offices,” President Mahama said, referring to the violent aftermath of the 2016 elections.

He emphasized that the NDC must not follow the same destructive path and should show the Ghanaian people that they are committed to peaceful and respectful transitions of power.

“We must not do the same thing. Let us show Ghana that we’re different,” he urged, highlighting the importance of setting a positive example for the nation.

The President also acknowledged the sacrifices of NDC’s youth, recognizing their role in the party’s victory but stressed the need to channel their energy into more constructive efforts.

“I know that a lot of our youth sacrifice and went to great lengths to make the party win and we must engage their youthful energies when things are settled,” he added.

President Mahama emphasized that if the attacks on public installations continue, the situation might escalate, necessitating intervention by security services to protect sensitive government properties.

“If this continues, we will have to call the security services to come and protect those sensitive installations. I wouldn’t want that to happen,” he warned.

Thank you my president. It seems you are different this time as a president. You are raising the bar this time and i really appreciate such a new standard. Earlier during your inauguration i went on YouTube to apologize for all my savory remarks i made about you. You've this time proved me wrong. Thank you and keep up with this new standard of governance and you will perform better than the high standard Nana Addo had set. Thank you my president
