Address us as Minority, not ‘Micro-Minority’ – Afenyo-Markin to Speaker Bagbin

The Minority NPP have strongly objected to Speaker Alban Bagbin’s description of their caucus as a “micro-minority.”

Leading the protest, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed the caucus’s dissatisfaction during a parliamentary session, stating that the label was inappropriate and uncalled for.

The incident occurred during the session on Wednesday, January 8, when Speaker Bagbin referred to the Minority caucus using the contentious term, sparking discontent among its members.

Responding to the Speaker’s description, Afenyo-Markin noted “Mr Speaker, we do not have any micro minority. Mr Speaker, the minority caucus hereby protests the description given to us by Mr Speaker.”

He further highlighted the role of the minority caucus in supporting Bagbin’s election as Speaker, despite opposition from the majority.

“Mr Speaker, we seconded the motion for your election. When the so-called majority was even conspiring against you, we protested. We stopped them from that conspiracy. Mr Speaker, it was us, the minority of conscience,” he continued.

Afenyo-Markin insisted that the term “micro minority” was unacceptable and urged the Speaker to address them as “minority semplicità.”
