Gifty Dumelo, the wife of newly sworn-in Ayawaso West Wuogon MP John Dumelo, has revealed her plans to assist her husband in his parliamentary role.
In an interview with the media during the January 7, 2025 inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama, Gifty emphasized her passion for supporting women and children in the constituency.
She explained that she will complement her husband’s work by taking up some of his responsibilities.
“I am very excited for him. This is a new journey, and we are all excited for him. I think I will focus on women and children because I am very passionate about that. It’s a way to take off some of his workload and support him,” Gifty shared.
John Dumelo was sworn in alongside other newly elected MPs by Speaker Alban Bagbin as the 9th Parliament commenced.
Dumelo, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), achieved a landmark victory in Ayawaso West Wuogon, a constituency long considered a New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold.
He secured 47,560 votes, decisively defeating Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP, who received 39,214 votes.
This marks a turnaround for Dumelo, who had narrowly lost to Alhassan in the 2020 elections.
