Assuming President’s Mahama’s 2nd term becomes one of the best in the entire world, should Ghanaians urge him to continue? Should the constitution be changed to have more?
Before anyone jumps with excitement, I pose a different question. Should President Akufo-Addo be allowed to run for a Third Term in 2028 if health permits? Especially when the Agyapade3 book informs us that wealth wouldn’t be an impediment.
Extending the Presidential Term
One of the suggestions which typically come up from those who have been privileged to serve as head of state is the extension of the Presidential term from 4years to 5 or more. In other jurisdictions, presidents have attempted to do this through the acquiescence of rubber-stamped legislation or by an enabling judiciary. Countries like Guinea and Ivory Coast easily come to mind. Senegal would not be far off wither.
Others who have served two consecutive 6- or 7-year terms still try to hold on for more years or a third term.
In fact, one of the worst suggestions ever made was by then outgoing President Kufuor was propose the extension of the presidential term to at least 5years. I would be grateful to know the results of a publicly administered lie detector test on our dear former president John Kufuor to know if he believes that President Akufo-Addo should serve one additional year as Ghana’s president?
Better yet, with the benefit of hindsight, and knowledge of what the presidency entails, I would like to know if President Kufuor thinks President Rawlings should have served two additional years before handing over to him in 2001.
God Bless Our Land Ghana. GYE NYAME.

I DISAGREE with your position taken against former President Kufuor's suggestion. He is a human just as you are, and if you, Fiifi, can suggest how much more Kufuor who has been on the seat of government? With my level of education, and understanding of English language, a suggestion is just an expressed opinion by someone. It has no binding effect and can be considered, a portion of it considered or thrown away in its entirety for not carrying the tools for totality. This does not mean peopl...
