Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has confirmed the return of a Toyota Land Cruiser to the government following the NPP's electoral loss.

Speaking in an interview, Aboagye explained that while he was entitled to retain the vehicle until January 7, 2025, he opted to return it ahead of time.

“I’ve returned it; it was a Toyota Land Cruiser, as a Presidential Staff Executive Secretary for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization. I returned it on Monday. Why are you driving it? I could have kept it till January 6th. No, no, I mean I could have kept it till January 6th when I formally hand over. But I’ve taken it back,” Miracles Aboagye stated in an interview with GHOne TV.

His decision aligns with a directive issued by the Office of the Presidency, which instructed all government appointees to return state vehicles no later than January 3, 2025. The directive applies to Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, and officials serving on statutory boards.

The statement, signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency, reiterated that political appointees are strictly prohibited from acquiring state vehicles for personal use.

Affected individuals are required to surrender their vehicles to the Chief Directors of their respective ministries before the stated deadline.
