#Election2024: Biakoye elects first female Member of Parliament

In a historic achievement for the Biakoye Constituency in Ghana’s Oti Region, Jean Marie Formadi has been elected as the first female Member of Parliament, breaking a longstanding tradition of male representation in the constituency.

Hon. Jean Marie Formadi secured victory in the fiercely contested 2024 parliamentary elections, where she faced two strong opponents: Mr. Paul Kwasi Demends of the LPG and Dr. Frank Yirenkyi of the NPP. Her campaign resonated powerfully with voters, earning her a decisive win.

The official results underscored her popularity among constituents:

• Jean Marie Formadi (NDC): 17,760 votes
• Dr. Frank Yirenkyi (NPP): 9,696 votes
• Mr. Paul Kwasi Demends (LPG): 97 votes

Speaking to Nana Yaw Asiamah during the vote collation, Hon. Formadi credited her victory to a campaign message that struck a chord with the people.

"It was a message of hope that the constituents welcomed. I also have a strong connection with the people," she remarked.

As she prepares to take on her role in Parliament, Formadi expressed a commitment to balanced development across all sectors of the constituency.

"I will not prioritize one sector over another. Every sector is vital. While empowering women and children is important, I recognize that agriculture, health, and other areas are equally critical to our growth. I will work diligently to serve all constituents," she affirmed.

Formadi’s election represents a significant milestone for the Biakoye Constituency, setting the stage for an inclusive and transformative era of leadership.
