The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, has secured a decisive victory in the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the Central Region, unseating the incumbent MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Naa Koryoo garnered 50,886 votes, surpassing Hawa Koomson's 46,638, to become the Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.
Her triumph represents a significant achievement for the NDC, as Awutu Senya East has long been a highly contested battleground in Ghana’s electoral landscape.
Campaigning on a platform focused on addressing key local challenges, Naa Koryoo's vision resonated with voters and fueled her remarkable victory.
“This has been a hard-fought victory for me. Kasoa is now free and will witness development under my leadership,” she declared after the results were announced.
Naa Koryoo’s success reflects the broader gains of the NDC in the 2024 general elections, which have strengthened the party’s presence in Parliament.
Following the announcement, jubilant NDC supporters gathered at the forecourt of the Central East Regional Police Command to celebrate, eagerly awaiting the final declaration of results.
