Mavis Kuukua Bissue-Boateng, affectionately known as "Kokoleee," has made history by becoming the first female Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ahanta West constituency under the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a decisive victory, Bissue-Boateng garnered 28,227 votes, representing 58.9% of the 47,890 valid votes cast. Her closest rival, Ing. Francis Pobee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 19,663 votes, amounting to 41.1%. This marks only the second time the NDC has won the parliamentary seat in Ahanta West, the first being the late Hon. George Kwame Aboagye in 2012.
Bissue-Boateng's triumph is seen as a reflection of the overwhelming support and confidence her constituents have in her leadership. During her campaign, she emphasized addressing key issues such as poor road infrastructure, a major concern for the constituency.
Beyond her campaign promises, Bissue-Boateng has already demonstrated her dedication to community development. She spearheaded several impactful projects, including the construction of a new market shed for local traders, the provision of boreholes to improve access to clean water, and the donation of canoes to farming communities reliant on water transportation.
Her historic win is being celebrated as a milestone for gender representation in the constituency, and many are optimistic about the transformative leadership she will bring to Ahanta West.
