Michael Agyekum Addo, the founder of the KAMA Group of Companies, has passed on.
Reports say he died on Friday, November 1.
He died at age 74.
In 2005, Addo received an honorary doctorate from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and in 2022, he was among the 88 PhD graduates from the University of Ghana.
A distinguished entrepreneur, Addo left a lasting legacy in Ghana's pharmaceutical industry. His KAMA Group of Companies, which initially included a pharmaceutical manufacturing subsidiary, grew to encompass numerous businesses. Additionally, he held the traditional title of Nkabomhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
Addo’s journey began in 1983 with a small pharmaceutical shop in Kumasi. By 1986, he had expanded his operations to his garage, where he started manufacturing medical products. This humble beginning laid the foundation for KAMA Group, a conglomerate with wholesale and retail outlets across Ghana.
Beyond pharmaceuticals, Addo ventured into microfinance, real estate, and managed a multi-purpose conference center. He also established the Kama Education Project, a program aimed at training teachers to instill entrepreneurial skills in students from a young age. An author of several books, Addo sought to inspire the younger generation with a strong “can-do” spirit.
