Dear Ghana, I dare say, that high -handed politicised jail, without bail, on a wholesale basis, is not demonstrative of due -process or the demands of justice and does not deserve to be hailed.
How on God's good Earth can we treat those decrying the grevious illicit intractable galamsey, the very nightmare which has been permitted to degenerate into an insane national pastime as though the demonstrators were ill _ fated, condemned political prisoners not entitled to bail ?
It is utterly an outrage that Ghana's current inept democratic governance has supervised the most horrendous environmental degradation in our history and is indulgent of both local and foreign galamsey terrorists in an "animal farm" syndrome that is intolerant of conscientious objection.
We pass ridiculous enabling legislation and grant official permits to nefarious nation wreckers to run riot in wanton destruction; desecrating pristine forests, polluting ancient and sacred water bodies into unrecognisable muddied mess, leaving a trail of health challenges as well as compromising our soils into harbingers of diseases and threatening our very existence as though this were a protected right. This is due to unbridled corruption, greed, and crude politics that is it's derivative foundation.
How many of the ordinary concerned citizens on remand for 2 weeks pose a national security threat or flight risk, to merit no bail ?
How many of the 53 locked up persons participated in road blocks or seizure of keys from a police vehicle or indulged in excessive acts which is being used as rational for the mass imprisonments without bail?
Why are the protestors not being treated on an individual basis for alleged crimes and granted bail relevant to the charged offenses?
Why this lopsided show of power designed to constrict and stifle active public dissent and create fear and sideline the substantive galamsey menace which has become a salient election issue?
What kind of obtuse scenario and upside down justice imprisons genuine concerned citizens
while guilty galamseyers go scot -free because they fund and support the illicit and lucrative gold- digging 'political thievery enterprise', and are therefore immune to legal strictures?
There certainly is an ongoing human rights violation to cow citizens into submission and deflect negative views on the so called galamsey fight which has been an abysmal failure due systemic and shameful governance complicity.
Yes, let irresponsible demonstrators face appropriate legal sanctions, and, what a better Ghana it would be if the law were applied to untouchable gallamsey Lords destroying our nation with impunity!
We need to re-focus attention unequivocally on resolving the galamsey menace and perennial youth unemployment rather than indiscriminate imprisonments to show where power lies!. This is most disappointing as well as deplorable and certainly inconsistent with the exercise of rights evident in a constitutional democracy.
The fundamental issue that should be resolved is "constitutional misgovernance" and showcasing of amoral and abysmal leadership evident in our economic decay and galamsey decadence.
