The Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar has urged media practitioners in Ghana to perform their role with honesty and dedication to the truth.
Delivering the keynote address at the launch of the 3rd cohort of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme training programme in Accra on Tuesday, September 10, the minister emphasized the importance of integrity in the work of journalists.
"I implore you to maintain the highest level of professionalism and integrity throughout this programme. You have a vital responsibility to enlighten and educate the public, and you must do so with honesty and a dedication to the truth," the minister said.
She noted that the media plays a crucial role as the fourth estate of the realm in Ghana's democracy, hence the need for journalists to adhere to principles of fairness, objectivity and accuracy in their reportage.
"A flourishing democracy is built on the foundation of an informed and capable media. As a result, the media capacity enhancement programme is more than just a shadow event. It is an essential step in enhancing our democracy and media environment," Said Fatimatu Abubakar.
The training programme, which is in its third edition, is organized by the Information Ministry in collaboration with partners including the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UniMAC).
It is aimed at deepening the knowledge of journalists and media professionals to improve the quality of their work.
The minister urged participants to take full advantage of the knowledge and experiences that will be shared during the 3-day training to help advance their careers and make significant contributions to national development through their work.
