The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says its proposed 'Adwumawura' programme aims to facilitate the creation of at least 10,000 businesses annually with a special focus on empowering the youth.
Unveiling the party's policies on business development at its manifesto press briefing on Tuesday, September 3, NDC Business Development spokesperson Hajia Saajida Shiraz stated that the initiative will provide support for young entrepreneurs.
"We will implement the 'Adwumawura' Programme: a special business start-up policy aimed at facilitating the creation, tracking, and mentoring of a minimum of 10,000 businesses annually with a special focus on young people,” she said.
The 'Adwumawura' programme which is part of the NDC's 'Resetting Ghana' agenda seeks to address unemployment among the youth by empowering them with requisite skills and resources to establish their own enterprises.
Hajia Shiraz assured that the incoming John Mahama administration will actively track and mentor startups established under this initiative to ensure their viability and sustainability.
The party also said its National Apprenticeship Programme will offer technical and vocational training to young people with certification and start-up capital to set up businesses upon completion.
"Through our National Apprenticeship Programme, we will provide free technical and vocational training for young people in various crafts, and in addition to certification, support apprentices with start-up capital and equipment to set up businesses," the spokesperson noted.
The NDC believes these youth-focused entrepreneurship interventions will contribute significantly to creating more new businesses annually and reducing unemployment if the party wins power in the 2024 general elections.
