Ghana's Education System And The Matters Arising.

Education is a key proponent to socio-economic development in any serious country, the reason why many governments across the world have invested heavily in education to develop its human resources to develop their various countries.

Ghana's case is of no exception as successive governments have invested heavily in one way or the other to educate our fellow citizens adequately.

Each and every generation has its own needs and aspirations and therefore educational reforms are very crucial to the realization of these aspirations, right after independence our educational system has undergone vigorous reforms up to now.

But recently there is a trend which seems has become normal thing going on in our various educational institutions whose repercussions on the future is very deadly. it is time we highlight it to nib it in the bud before it will devour us completely if only the damage has not been caused already.

I am neither here to rubbish the government interventions in the education sector nor to politicize the educational system for what is happening right now if not check, the effect being catastrophic would be on everyone irrespective of your political, religious and tribal backgrounds.

Sadly enough, politicians from both sides of the major political parties in the country have been manipulating the educational system for their mischievous political expediency. If Ghanaians call recall, in the run up to the 2012 general elections, the government of the day dishonestly and deliberately removed the cut-points for entry into Senior High School from grade 30 to 45.

The situation under this current government has worsen of where it has become the norm where students are seriously assisted to write their final exams be it BECE or WASSCE. This is an established fact which is known by every honest person in the country.

This is very shameful and very dangerous if not a national security threat to our dear nation and the world as a whole.

Students only play passive role during exams as teachers shameful go to the exam centres to write the exams for the students. No sincere and God fearing person will doubt this.

What is shocking is that what work has these JHS and SHS teachers whom we have been using our taxes to pay them doing, if all that they can do is go to the exam centres and help these children to pass at all cost.

This is a big disgrace and an indictment on the teachers who called themselves professionals. This generation has a lot of resources disposal at their to facilitate their learning therefore it is never the responsibility of any teacher in the junior and second cycle schools to assist these students to pass examination at all cost just to appease their pay masters. Students were passing on their own in those days when they were not offered any help so what has changed now.

These politicians have made everything possible to look like all is well and there is nothing wrong with our system.

How many of these politicians have their wards in these schools that they formulate policies to manipulate?

What are we teaching this so called future leaders of our country?

Remember these students are the ones who will be teaching our children in the coming years, be working at the various hospitals, will they be competent enough to work diligently at wherever they found themselves.

Examination as a form of assessment helps to place students in their right place so it is never a do and die affair that they should be assisted to pass any exams at inappropriate, dubious and cunning and dishonest means.

Waec has done so little in curbing this canker as it has become a mere puppet.

Right from Waec officials, security personnel, GES officials teachers, parents they have now formed a syndicate just to assist these children to pass their exams at every dubious means.

All these children have to do is to pay monies being asked to pay by the head of their schools and they are good to go.

The present is pregnant with the future and we will reap what we are sowing now.

Put a stop to this examination malpractice now.
