Substituting the face of Christ with that of Adom Kyei Duah Makes More Sense to Me

Adom Kyei Dua, who has built the largest church auditorium in Ghana, has declared in a stentorian voice that in the coming five hundred years, his glorious face will replace that of Jesus Christ, and adorn calendars all over the world. My first reaction to this bold declaration was, “Why the hell not?” What is there about Jesus Christ that is missing in the ministry of Adom Kyei Duah? Aren’t both human beings pretending to be God? One still living while the other has been dead for two thousand years? And isn’t it the case that because Adom Kyei Duah is still alive, he is more capable of giving more spiritual succor to those who attend his church rather than Jesus Christ who was crucified and has been dead for too long?

Let me tell you, being a black man myself, I find Adom Kyei Duah more of an attractive option to adorn my calendar than Jesus Christ who is white with blue eyes. I have also not forgotten that those who brought Jesus’ kind of religion enslaved our people. Moreover, he himself stated that he came because of the lost sheep of Israel; and at some point in his ministry, he described those of us non-Jews as dogs.

But here, we have one of our own making declarations that equate him to Jesus. So insofar as he is a black man living within our time and space, and gathering a host of people around him and healing them, I feel more comfortable with him than Jesus Christ, a complete stranger that lived in the remote past.

The only reason I will not post Adom Kyei’s Duah’s photo on my calendar is that he is so ugly. I mean I am not your kind of charming Romeo myself, being sixty-one and all, but Adom Kyei Duah’s picture will invite a parliament of screeching chimpanzees into my dreams, causing all sorts of unspeakable havoc to my brain. To his credit, he makes himself look so much like a chimpanzee with this ugly and unkempt moustache and beard! And if a person has that kind of boldness to take pride in his own ugliness, there sure is something positively going on for him. His teaching that there are no witches on earth is superior to his nemesis Obofuor’s, who has been nicknamed Catcher of Witches. What both of them need is a broader abjuration of any kind of spirituality at all, because to me, there is nothing like spirituality anywhere on earth, and anybody that performs a miracle is simply a magician. Nothing else.

And these magicians and mountebanks are a dime a dozen nowadays. To be frank with you, most of these men of God are at the basic level of elementary skullduggery, small time magicians because what they do are all small time elementary tricks. Most of them are engaged in promoting tithes as the sine qua non to heaven. In effect, they are convincing their followers to forego all the pleasures on earth by giving them the money with which they could enjoy themselves here on earth so that after death, these followers could enjoy the same pleasure in heaven which would be available to them here on earth had they used their own money on themselves!

There are those encouraging self-immolation of their followers, who roll on the floor, shrieking like banshees. There are those speaking in strange tongues which others pretend to interpret. There are those raising the dead from death. There are Those bathing or kissing female members of the church. There are those prophesying about things which everybody knows will certainly happen……

What is missing in all this religious hokum, is a word of wisdom, ethics or morality by which all these poor folks will live. Because by the blood of Jesus Christ, all sins are forgiven; and a person who lives a life of righteousness is simply viewed as being contemptible insofar as his deeds are considered as mere rags.

So now the religious space is replete with a density of stupidity so much so that the holy ground has become a place where the most stupendous acts of stupidity are freely done, and where the worship of God has become all the most outrageous things one can do with the intention of worshipping God.

And if you look carefully at what is going on, you find out that they are not different from what Jesus taught or promoted. After all, Jesus was just another impostor performing blood magic as miracles; and teaching some of the dumbest things under sun. It was he who said that we should let the crops grow with the weed until harvest time; or leave ninety-nine sheep in the wilderness and go looking for one stray sheep; or go searching for a coin in the dark and when found, throw a full party for finding a coin. It was Jesus, who, after failing to find pomegranate on a tree because the fruit was out of season, cursed out the tree for failing to bear fruit whereas it was out of season. To forbid the challenge to all this nonsense, Jesus himself substituted reasoning with faith and belief, urging upon his followers the propensity to act like sheep.

So the template Jesus set up is not different from what we are witnessing today. And nobody can claim to be a true believer in him unless that person is either an impostor, mountebank or plain retarded. There is nothing too difficult about this. That is why our best citizens: doctors, lawyers, professors, intellectuals, scholars……. They have all bound themselves to the religious hokum, so much so that their abilities and scholarship are scuttled in the body armor of religion where they cannot think or act or speak any sense except in tongues.

And we as a nation have given them incentives for their trash, such that the religious establishment does not pay taxes while they load their barn with the treasury of the country as we travel the globe with pan in hand to beg for loans.

So given all the above, why should it become an issue that we now have our own Christ Adom Kyei Duah, an impostor who would like to supplant Jesus Christ who also supplanted God? I would rather we had our own impostor who is at least not calling us dogs or sheep, nor teaching agricultural foolishness and advising us leave to our crops to be overtaken by weed; or telling us that he came because of the Jews. Finally, Adom Kyei Duah has built a church which is a gas chamber for the burning of brains, not a slave castle where he will put us in chains and ship us across the oceans.

Were it not for his ugly face which would surely give me nightmares, I would rather his image adorned my calendar than that of the other imposter.
