The Old Students Association of Akome Senior High Technical School (AKOSTEC) in Akome Gboagame, located in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, has pledged their full support to their alma mater.
They commit to ensuring the school's development aligns with other progressing secondary schools in the region.
The alumni, who joined the school’s SRC Week and Homecoming celebration from Friday, June 7th to Sunday, June 9th, promised to collaborate with the School Management Board and other relevant bodies to foster comprehensive development.
The Akome Senior High Technical School Old Students Association (AKOSA), as it is commonly called, was officially formed about four years ago. Previous efforts by some concerned alumni had failed to sustain the union and achieve their vision.
In 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association was revitalized. Despite challenges posed by the pandemic from 2020 to 2022, the perseverance of some interim executives, along with support from a few members including the Headmistress of the school, ensured the association’s survival. The association successfully inaugurated three batches into its fold in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Although the Association has faced difficulties in recruiting more members, particularly earlier alumni, it has remained steadfast in its vision of providing assistance to the school. In recent years, they have purchased a set of drums and trumpets for the school’s cadet group and organized a skills acquisition and development seminar for the 2022 batch.
During the 2024 SRC Week and Homecoming event on Sunday, June 9, 2024, the Association, led by interim President Mr. Shine Kudior, donated 100 bags of cement to support the construction of a fence wall project. Additionally, individual and batch cash donations were presented to the school.
Mr. Kudior, in presenting the donation, affirmed the Association’s unwavering support for the school's goals. "As an association of the past students of this noble institution, what you see here is cement. Everything you see around will solve any problem, won't it? For that matter, we want to cement the whole school," he said.
He expressed confidence that current students would continue to support the school's development and devote part of their earnings to its growth after graduation. "You will also be part of the development of the school. In the next three years, all of you will join the association. I know you have this school at heart, and you will support any project the school embarks on," he added.
