Prof. Opoku Mensah appointed substantive Vice-Chancellor of UniMAC

The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has appointed Professor Eric Opoku Mensah as its substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Opoku Mensah assumed the role of acting Vice-Chancellor in February 2024 after the retirement of the previous VC, Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo.

At its first emergency meeting, the Governing Council of UniMAC decided to appoint Professor Opoku Mensah as the substantive Vice-Chancellor. The appointment took effect from May 13, 2024.

Speaking on his appointment, Professor Opoku Mensah said, "I am honoured to assume the role of Vice-Chancellor at UniMAC and committed to driving positive change and progress."

"The Management I will lead will ensure that UniMAC remains at the forefront of training professionals in the media, arts and communication disciplines by providing a dynamic and enriching environment for our students, faculty, and staff," he added.

Professor Opoku Mensah brings with him years of experience in academia, having previously served as the Deputy Rector of the erstwhile Ghana Institute of Journalism, as well as Acting Rector and later Rector after it became part of UniMAC.

Under his leadership as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Opoku Mensah aims to transform various areas of the university including enhancing the student experience, expanding infrastructure, fostering cutting-edge research, and forging international collaborations.

A statement from UniMAC dated Monday, May 20, notes that Professor Opoku Mensah's track record in leadership and innovation exemplifies the core values of the university.

His vision for higher education aligns with UniMAC's commitment to preparing students for success.

Professor Eric Opoku Mensah holds a PhD in Rhetoric Studies from the University of Cape Town.

He has extensive experience in academia, research, and administration in Ghana's higher education sector.
