Dr. Bawumia Deserves A Chance To Lead Ghana To Prosperity

Feature Article Dr. Bawumia Deserves A Chance To Lead Ghana To Prosperity
FEB 8, 2024 LISTEN

When Vice President of Imani Ghana, Kofi Bentil Esq, said Dr. Bawumia deserves a fair hearing from Ghanaians, he knew exactly what he was saying. So after Dr. Bawumia's presentation of his vision for Ghana's development when elected president, it became abundantly clear that Mr. Bentil's argument is the only logical conclusion that every Ghanaian wishing the best for our country will reach.

No reverence should be given to the NDC and it's paid surrogates pretending to be civil society organizations when they desperately seek to close the door to fair hearing for Dr. Bawumia and condemning him because he is associated with the government of President Akufo-Addo. Their call is not only fundamentally against the natural rules of justice that even guarantees suspects arrested in the process of committing heinous crimes a fair hearing, but actually exposes their fear of defeat in an issue based campaign that Dr. Bawumia proposes.

First, it is unthinkable for the NDC to propose that Ghanaians should use their power guaranteed by the constitution to "punish" Dr. Bawumia for actions which the same constitution does not hold him ultimately responsible. In his presentation of his vision, Dr. Bawumia boldy accepted collective responsibility for the actions of the government which he serves as vice president in the spirit of honesty. But fact remains that he is not, as the constitution guarantees, the person charged with having the final say on the government's decision. Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia diligently enumerated key projects which he supervised as vice president during the past 7 years and clearly illustrated how those initiatives significantly contributed to economic growth and development of our nation. Assuming arguendo, that if Dr. Bawumia as vice president was to bear the brunt for some challenges experienced in the past 7 years, the facts still show that the record of development achieved by this government even under the global economic crisis significantly dwarf what was achieved by his main opponent John Mahama who was president at a time when there was no global economic crisis.

As usual, the NDC and their paid surrogates, who hitherto called on Dr. Bawumia to deliver his vision, are now asking why he didn't resign or speak up against some policies of government if indeed he had a different direction. Their shifting of the goal post shows that they would have been first to claim that Dr. Bawumia was running away from responsibility if he had resigned or sought to criticize his own government. So nothing can be said to convince them because they are bruised and yet to recover. However, for those who are sincere in their concerns, it will not be difficult for them to understand Dr. Bawumia’s staying to work for government has yielded positive results and set a solid foundation for the implementation of his own unique vision when elected as president in the 2024 elections.

Others have queried why the government he serves as vice president does not abolish the taxes he intends to do away with or implement his proposals before he comes to power. This still boils down to the fact that this government in its present structure is not Dr. Bawumia's presidency and the constitution of Ghana bears testimony to this fact. That is why he is not the president and not the commander in chief of the Ghana armed forces as the constitution stipulates. On the other hand, a very fair question that needs to be answered is why Dr. Bawumia's major opponent, John Mahama, who was President and commander in chief of the Ghana armed forces didn't implement all of his "sudden beautiful ideas" when he was President and commander in chief of the Ghana armed forces?

I urge Ghanaians to come to terms with the fact that the 2024 elections is not a contest between Dr. Bawumia and a utopian candidate. It is between Dr. Bawumia who has served as vice president and John Mahama who served previously as President and commander in chief of the Ghana armed forces. This is the true reality. John Mahama had his time to serve as President but failed woefully. Consequently, he was rejected by Ghanaians in two consecutive elections following his abysmal performance as president and commander in chief of Ghana armed forces. In summary, John Mahama has no place in the future of Ghana and his presidential ambition "ya mutu". Thus, no amount of permutations made by the NDC should be given any attention because they are inviting Ghanaians to choose a certified failed candidate (i.e. John Mahama) over a candidate with huge potential and clear vision to transform Ghana (i.e. Dr. Bawumia).

Just like President Kufour said in his introductory remarks of Dr. Bawumia's lecture, Dr. Bawumia is the man of the moment. For him to develop such an excellent blueprint outlining his vision to transform Ghana in the early days of his campaign shows that he has always been prepared for the task unlike John Mahama who says he needs a honeymoon before attempting to solve what he says are "urgent" needs of the country. Dr. Bawumia represents the future and his vision as outlined in his statement is evidence that Ghanaians should give him a chance to transform our country and lead it to prosperity.
