Wontumi denies 'insulting' Otumfuo

The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiko, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has presented himself before the Kumasi Traditional Council to address alleged derogatory remarks made against the Asantehene during the NPP's vetting of parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti Region.

Accompanied by NPP Chairman, Mr Stephen Ntim, and Majority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, and Chairman Wontumi appeared before the Council to respond to the accusations made by Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Duah.

During the hearing, Nana Kwaku Duah, as a witness, recounted the events that transpired during the vetting process.

In response, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiko refuted the allegations, describing them as untrue and an unfair representation of his statements.

This development follows an earlier altercation between Chairman Wontumi and Nana Kwaku Duah during the vetting.

Chairman Wontumi had initially failed to honour an invitation by the traditional council for a hearing, citing health reasons. However, following an apology rendered by Wontumi Media to the Kumasi Traditional Council, the NPP national leadership appeared before the council, requesting more time.

The council directed that Chairman Wontumi make a subsequent appearance within one week.

Sources from the Manhyia Palace dismissed of reports that the Asantehene directed the Kumasi Traditional Council to discontinue the case.

The hearing before the traditional council aimed to address and resolve the allegations made against Chairman Wontumi in relation to derogatory comments against Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.
