“Honeymoon”
The term “honeymoon” is believed to have originated from the tradition of newlyweds consuming mead, a fermented beverage made with honey. This romantic connection between honey and newlyweds further reinforces the perception of honey as a symbol of love and passion.
pbs. org(2014) revealed that honey has been linked to love and fertility for centuries. According to ancient Greek mythology, honey was considered the nectar of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. This association between honey and love has persisted throughout the ages, with honey being viewed as a sweet and sensual gift from nature.
Honey and Sexual Health, Science
Ajibola et al.(2012) study revealed the many beneficial vitamins and minerals in raw honey. It also revealed that consuming manuka honey specifically could improve your sex life and increase sexual desire. Due to manuka honey benefits, some honey producers use some sexual enhancement in their honey, and this could predispose you to health consequences.
The history of honey as an aphrodisiac
An article by the NYPost in 2017 explained that in the ancient days newlyweds used to be gifted enough honeymead alcohol to last them one moon (around a month), to help them fulfill their marital conjugal duties. Others say that it is simply the sweet period that follows getting married.
The Heritage Key blog claimed that the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians were big fans of raw honey. Also, hellenicdailynewsny.com reports that honey with pepper was a very common and potent medicine used to prepare for having sex. It was considered the Viagra of ancient times.
Low et al.(2006) found that the traditional Malay communities used a honey and egg mixture as a massage oil for treating erectile dysfunction. Also, a recent 2022 article in the Times of India highlights that in Hindu culture, Kamadeva, the God of erotic love and desire, carried honey-soaked weapons to unite the hearts of couples.
