Akrofuom MP increases support for dressmakers

Member of Parliament for Akrofuom constituency in the Ashanti Region Hon. Alex Blankson has donated 19 brand new sewing machines and a cash amount of Ghs19,000 to support graduands at the third graduation ceremony of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association( GNTDA) in Akrofuom.

The MP since the inception of the graduation ceremony few years ago, has donated over Gh43,800 and 49 sewing machines to apprentices who graduated from GNTDA in Akrofuom.

Speaking at the short ceremony, the MP hinted at sponsoring 100 youth from January 2024 to engage in various vocational skills and urged the Association to make good use of the machines since they form part of his apprenticeship programme aimed at helping the youth in his constituency to learn skills and improve their lives.

The District Chief Executive of Akrofuom, Hon Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode expressed worry about the unwillingness of the young males in the district to enter into vocational works. He said the benefits of learning trade are enormous as it provides an opportunity for them to be economically independent and self-employed.

The beneficiaries of the MP's support program commended him for the initiative. They reveal that the program has enabled them set up their own businesses.

The well-attended program had Nananom, Clergymen, Assembly Members, the aged and the youth as well as leaders across the various political divides of the district in attendance.
