Mr Martin Ayisi is from the Minerals Commission. A very clever fellow. He appears as a guest on Dr. Randy Abbey's GMG program on Thursdays to discuss Ghana's minerals and natural resources. He is very knowledgeable in his field. On Thursday 2nd November edition of the program, Dr Randy Abbey, a very clever fellow too, found a potential legal loophole in the Ewoyaa lithium mining agreement. Dr. Randy Abbey noted that a required legal process was absent, of which Mr Ayisi did not disagree. Responding to Randy's query about the missing legal framework in the agreement, Mr. Martin Ayisi implied that adhering to and applying all required legal processes would've brought about a delay. A delay that could have resulted in potential losses to the country.
If it is the case that the agreement was concluded without a vital legal requirement, meaning there's a degree of illegality the whole thing. This, to me, presents a serious, foul-smelling recipe for disaster. It a general suspicion that some of these heavy-duty judgement debts have been the tacit workings of people in
Government to cash in later. It is believed that these legal loopholes are purposely drawn to create Judgement Debt. As it stands, who is to say that the legal flaws this agreement will in future not be cited as the basis for judgment debt demands.
As for Mr Martin Ayisi, he is no doubt a clever fellow who has vast knowledge, expertise, and experience in the field of mineralogy and its attributes. I will advise him, though, not replace humility with pride and arrogance. His remarks and reference to those of us who have expressed doubts about the lithium agreement as people who lack the ability to read and comprehend were not fair and not necessary.
Meanwhile, getting to the end of the program, he told us that very soon, the hitherto unpublished and unseen Ewoyaa lithium mining agreement will be made public. Well, when the documents come out, we will read and try and make out what really was the reason for the rush by Ghana government in signing this lithium mining agreement which an expert has described as colonial era agreement. If it turns out that everything in this agreement is in perfect order, I mansa musa will write to apologise for jumping the gun. For raising false alarm.
