BoG $250 million office: They think we are fools; They can’t even be sensible about the times – Prof. Gyampo fumes

Renowned Political Scientist and senior lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Yaw Gyampo has raised questions about the urgency to put up a new head office for the Bank of Ghana at a time the country is in an economic crisis.

In a post on Facebook to share his view on the $250 million office building for BoG, the Political Science Lecturer argued that it appears those in leadership positions in the country think Ghanaians are fools to believe everything they put out.

He wonders why BoG will be building such an expensive office building at a time government has admonished the Ghanaian people to tighten their belts to survive the economic hardships in the country.

“They can’t even be sensible about the times. They think we are all fools.

“They are telling us times are hard and that we should tighten our belts. Yet they have a justification for spending huge sums of money on a new BoG building,” Prof. Ransford Gyampo bemoaned on his Facebook page.

According to the Bank of Ghana, the new office building has become necessary to replace the old one built by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the 1960s which is no longer fit for purpose and will not survive earth tremors.

But for Prof. Ransford Gyampo, although this explanation may be valid, perhaps someone has stolen money and is trying to use the Bank of Ghana project as a cover-up.

In his post on Facebook, he stressed that future superior political authority must one day hold any official that let the country down accountable.

Akufo Addo and his administration don't accept any accountability, which indicates that they don't care about the welfare of the populace or the state's future. I mentioned the printing of money by this government without the consent of parliament on three separate occasions in the majority of my writings detailing the crimes committed by this administration, which in my opinion make Bawumia ineligible to be president. As someone who frequently boasted about improving Ghana's economy, Bawumia...
