The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has shared the view that whoever authored the letter indicating that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah got it wrong.
Speaking to Starr FM in an interview, GII Acting Executive Director Mary Addah said the letter only reaffirms the notion that President Akufo-Addo is a 'clearing agent.'
“Unfortunately whoever authored this letter got it wrong but the President’s signature is on it. The President continues to do this and he has done it before and that tag on him as clearing agent has been reaffirmed. In this particular letter,” the Acting Executive Director of GII said.
According to Mary Addah, if the President believes Cecilia Dapaah will be exonerated after investigations then there was no point in accepting her resignation letter.
“We all espouse that the President is a lawyer and so for the President’s confidence to go to the extent that he is now sure that the person will be exonerated is one think I believe that they should all be thinking about again.
“Number two, if the President is as confident as he espouses in this letter in response to the former Minister, why then did he accept her resignation? Because he had two options, either to ignore or to take action and allow investigative bodies to do their work,” the GII Acting Executive Director shared.
Former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah tendered his resignation to the President on July 21 following controversy around the US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana cedis stolen from her home.
In her resignation letter, she indicated that she has taken the decision to leave her post because she does not want the matter to distract the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Accepting the resignation letter of the Minister, President Akufo-Addo said “I am confident, like you, that, at the end of the day, your integrity, whilst in office, will be fully established. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours.
“It is with considerable regret that I accept your resignation, and I applaud your loyalty to the image and standing of the government.”
