JUN 16, 2023 LISTEN

Today, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made a giant stride towards fulfilling his vision for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghana by filing his nomination forms to contest the NPP presidential primaries. Amidst this pivotal event in the history of the NPP which saw an overwhelming support of party grassroot was the resonating sound of the slogan “It is Possible” coined by Dr. Bawumia. This concise yet impactful slogan summarizes the hopes of ‘Kukrudites’ and the aspirations of Ghanaians. A slogan coined from three words but powerfully and succinctly reveals the visions and aspirations of Dr. Bawumia for the NPP and Ghana. “It is Possible” is not merely a collection of words, but a testament to Dr. Bawumia’s intense belief in the NPP’s and Ghana’s potential for greatness across various realms. In this regard, join me to explore in this article a brief of what ‘It is Possible’ means and how the slogan reflects and inspires Dr. Bawumia’s vision for the NPP and Ghana across different domains.

First, there can never be a more inspiring slogan for members of the NPP at this time than “It is Possible”. How could there be any better slogan when we are faced with the challenge of breaking the eight-year cycle of power alternation that has characterized Ghana’s politics since 1992? “It is Possible” inspires confidence and hope for the NPP that breaking the 8 is indeed possible especially at a time when the propaganda of the NDC has painted a false and gloomy picture of our achievements in government. This is why a selfless and dedicated patriot Dr. Bawumia instead of using a big forum provided at NPP’s International Women’s Conference in London to do internal campaigns rather chose to present over hundred keyways in which the NPP Government has delivered on its mandate to Ghanaians. In a unique and inspiring tone, Dr. Bawumia confidently told his fellow patriots that “Let nobody tell you that we don’t have a message for 2024”. He went on to provide evidence of our achievements from sector to sector until it became evidently clear that indeed we have a message for 2024 and that “It is Possible” to break the 8 for the first time in our nation’s history. Similarly, he took time to highlight the achievements of our government in his address immediately after filing his nomination forms. This is the hallmark of a true and committed patriot.

For Dr. Bawumia, “It is Possible” is to transform Ghana into a prosperous, and resilient country that can overcome any form of challenges and attain its potential. Thus, a nation that can stay self-sufficient and compete with high income countries at the global front. This entails empowering the human capital, ensuring transparent and accountable governance to leverage our own resources and capabilities to push an agenda of development. Dr. Bawumia’s vision to transform Ghana is clearly seen in how he has prioritized strengthening the foundations of any transformative process for a country which is innovatively digitalizing all sectors of government/economy. This transformative process has seen an increase in financial inclusion, seamless banking transactions across different platforms, enhanced data management and reduced identity fraud via the Ghana card, access to essential medicines and medical supplies by way of innovative drones, improved living standards for persons in inner cities via the Zongo development fund, decentralizing development agencies, making sure that no child loses out of high/vocational school due to financial constraints, and many more.

Furthermore, at a time when the world and sub-Saharan Africa are challenged with threats of insecurity due to all kinds of conflicts, Dr. Bawumia inspires us all that indeed “It is Possible” to unite Ghana as one nation regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences. Thus, a nation that fosters a culture of respect for diversity and peaceful coexistence among all Ghanaians irrespective of our differences. With this belief, Dr. Bawumia is seen every now and then actively interacting and engaging all segments of the Ghanaian society. In fact, his active engagement with the Christian community earned him the wrath of a journalist from the online news portal thefourthestategh by the name Evans Aziamor-Mensah who after failing to constructively criticize Dr. Bawumia decided to derogatively describe him as a “religious nomad”. With Dr. Bawumia’s charisma, humility, and integrity, “It is Possible” to build a united Ghana with a common goal of ensuring peace, security, and stability for development.

The above are some few dimensions in which Dr. Bawumia’s “It is possible” reflects his vision for NPP and Ghana. Dr. Bawumia is not just a slogan-maker, he is a slogan-doer. He has proven himself by words and deed to be a visionary, innovative, responsive, and transformative leader who has the necessary set of skills, and passion to lead Ghana to greater heights. He has shown himself to be a man of the people, who listens to their needs, respects their diversity, and works for their welfare. Dr. Bawumia is the best choice to lead the NPP in the 2024 elections; He is the best choice to be the father of our nation in the 2024 elections and he is the best choice to lead Ghana into a path of prosperity and progress. A Ghana where the economy is flourishing, the citizens empowered, and the nation united under a common destiny of prosperity. With Dr. Bawumia’s unwavering “It is Possible” belief, Ghanaians will be inspired to work together for a nation where the challenges of yesterday are surmounted, the prospects of the present are seized, and the great potential of the future is accomplished. Indeed, the Dr. Bawumia sees Ghanaians as active stakeholders in achieving the "It is Possible" agenda and this explains why during his address after filing his nominations he kept on repeating "together with you... " thereby creating a strong connection between his vision for Ghana and the support of patriots and Ghanaians. This is a leader who respects people and appreciates the significant role that his followers and Ghanaians have to play in the achievement of his vision of development and progress.

In conclusion, Dr. Bawumia’s filing of his nomination forms today is a profound milestone that has a significant connection with his overarching mission to create a Ghana that turns aspirations into reality and where everything good is possible to achieve. This is the beginning to charting a brighter future for Ghana through Dr. Bawumia’s strong belief and inspiration that “It is Possible”. I therefore urge delegates to rally behind Dr. Bawumia and vote massively for him to lead the NPP in the 2024 elections to victory.
