Former Trade Minister and flagbearer hopeful for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen has pledged to lead a people-focused government if elected as the party's candidate and subsequently as Ghana's president.
In a tweet on Wednesday, June 8, Mr Kyerematen quoted the famous line from former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, stating, "I will run a government by the people, for the people, and of the people."
Mr Kyerematen, who seeks to represent the NPP in the 2024 elections, also unveiled his Great Transformational Plan (GTP), which aims to accelerate Ghana's economic recovery process.
The details, disclosed in his declaration of intent earlier this year, are expected to address key challenges facing the nation and foster sustainable growth.
The NPP opened nominations for members wishing to contest the flagbearership race on May 26.
The nomination period will close on June 24, followed by a national congress on November 4, where the party will choose its leader for the upcoming elections, aiming to break the 8-year governance cycle.
Mr Kyerematen is not the only prominent figure vying for the NPP's flagbearership.
The race has attracted several high-profile contestants, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie, Francis Addai Nimo, and others.
