Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Armah Kofi-Buah has stated that the deposed Assin north Member of Parliament James Gyakye Quayson will resist any form of humiliation by the justice system.

The by-election in Assin North follows the Supreme Court’s ruling that led to the removal of the former Member of Parliament, Gyakye Quayson.

The court determined that he was a Canadian citizen when he contested and won the seat in 2020.

As a result, the apex court declared his election as null and void and furtyer ordered Parliament to expunge the name of James Gyakye Quayson from its records.

Parliament finally declared the Assin North seat vacant on Tuesday, May 30.

However, reacting to the Assin North by-election to be held on June 27, the Ellembelle MP is optimistic James Gyakye Quayson will be vindicated.

“This is what our unfair justice system has tried to subject him to in the last 2 years,” Armah Kofi-Buah said in a statement on the decision by Mr Quayson to contest in the Assin North by-election.

He continued, “A man of complete integrity, Hon Quayson has held his cool and has maintained his dignity in the face of this blatant injustice. His quest to contribute his quota in ameliorating the predicament of his people is unparalleled. Despite the miscarriage of justice administered to him, his sacred resolve to change the narrative for the good people of Assin North remains undeterred and unbroken."

“In an unjust society, silence is a crime. We all have an obligation to speak up and soon Ghana will hear from the people of Assin North. The people of Assin North will speak stridently against the cruelty meted out to them come 27th June. The injustice of depriving them of representation for the last couple of years. If you are an apostle of justice, then stand up to be counted. Join the movement to re-elect Hon. Gyakye Quayson. We are poised for victory”, Armah Kofi-Buah stated.

In a statement announcing his decision to contest Mr Quasyon said “I know that you, the people of Assin North, are ready for the bye-election.

“Since last year April, when the Supreme Court stopped me from performing my duties as your representative in Parliament, you have been without representation in the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic. Like the people of the SALL Traditional Areas who are excluded from representation in this Parliament, you the people of Assin North too have been in that unacceptable situation for over a year.

“The bye-election, which must be held within thirty days of the decision of the Supreme

"Court, according to the Constitution (Ar􀆟cle 112(5), will bring an end to this situation.

"The will of the people of Assin North must triumph."

“Democracy must be restored. I urge you all to come out in your numbers to vote for me so I return to Parliament and continue the work I began to do on your behalf, towards advancing the Assin North development agenda”, James Gyakye Quayson stated.
