MAY 31, 2023 LISTEN

Renowned Ghanaian pollster, Ben Ephson has given his view on how the Assin North by-election will pan out.

According to the Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will suffer to win the vacant Parliamentary seat.

Mr. Ephson is of the view that the political party that will do more work will win the by-election.

“Assin North is kind of a swing place so it is not going to be a safe place for anybody. That is going to be interesting.

“It is up to the two political parties to get people out to vote and definitely a by-election will not have the same energy as the general election. But this will be a higher turnout than Kumawu,” Mr. Ben Ephson shared in an interview with Starr FM.

James Gyakye Quayson emerged as the MP-elect for Assin North at the end of the 2020 election.

He has been found guilty of contesting the election while holding dual citizenship.

As a result, the Supreme Court directed Parliament to expunge his name from its records.

In a letter to the Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, May 29, Parliament informed the commission that the Assin North parliamentary seat is officially vacant.

The EC will now make arrangements to hold a by-election in Assin North.
