The NPP is cruising towards an electoral victory in the Kumawu by-election. The victory per the various polling station results so far gathered points to an emphatic one.

The victory however is coming without some key observation. The NPP once again could not win the Benevolent Islamic Basic School polling station, a polling station which is dominated by people from the Muslim community.

It must be noted that the Vice President’s campaign team have been making the point that with the Vice President leading the NPP, the party will surely sweep the votes in the Muslim and the ZONGO communities.

The Kumawu by-election was a test case for the Vice President to make the point that when given the opportunity to lead the party’s campaign activities in the Muslim and ZONGO communities, because of his background as a Muslim and a northerner, the NPP will win in these areas. The results from the Benevolent Islamic Basic School therefore must be a humbling one as the NPP could not win the polling station dominated by Muslims in the Kumawu constituency. The results from the said polling station are as follows:

NPP: 60

NDC: 253

IND: 23

IND: 1

Rejected: 3

340/524....64.88% turnout

With this, many political watchers are asking the Vice President a simple question as to where specifically he be leading the NPP to garner the much-needed votes to aid them win the 2024 General Election in an unlikely event that he is given the nod to lead the party?

This is a straitjacket view of the issue. To be able to make a well informed analysis of the situation, it's fair to give a history of past elections. For all you know, the NPP was getting single digit figures in the past but for the Veep's intervention, got 60 votes this election. It can also be that the NPP was getting higher figures (in percentage terms) but got lower this time, even amidst the Veep's presence in the constituency.
