Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has expressed confidence in his party's ability to pull off a surprise victory in the Kumawu by-election.

He asserted that the NDC has made significant strides and is halfway towards achieving its goal of wresting the seat from the NPP.

"We have accomplished part of what we came to do in Kumawu. We have witnessed the NPP struggling, which is indicative of President Akufo-Addo's waning popularity," Gbande stated.

"I can assure you that the people of Kumawu will show Nana Addo and the NPP,” he added.

During an interview on Accra-based Asaase Radio's Breakfast Show on Tuesday, May 23, Gbande claimed that the residents of Kumawu are dissatisfied with the current government led by Akufo-Addo.

He also alleged that the NPP is utilizing state funds to influence voters and resorting to desperate tactics in their quest for votes.

But, Mr. Gbande remains optimistic that the results of the by-election will be unfavorable for the NPP.

Gbande emphasized that the NDC has conducted its campaign in a respectable manner by highlighting the reasons why the constituents should reject the NPP for the first time since 1996.

"We are not here for mere political rhetoric. Our purpose is to work and remind the people of Kumawu about the ongoing developmental projects," he stated. "While we campaign based on goodwill, they engage in vote buying and misuse state resources to secure votes."

Currently, a by-election is underway in Kumawu in the Ashanti region, to fill the seat left vacant by the late NPP MP, Philip Basoa.
