Elections Kumawu by-election: Change your official to avoid chaos — NDC tells EC after pink sheet confusion
MAY 23, 2023 LISTEN

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concern over a pink sheet that had already been signed at the Oyoko Methodist polling station even before the start of the Kumawu by-election on Tuesday.

The assistant polling agent, who disclosed that an EC official propelled the NDC and NPP agents to sign against what the Electoral Commission guidelines, brought the issue to the notice of the NDC's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Augustus Nana Kwasi.

Speaking to Starr News, the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman called on the EC to change its officer for a peaceful election.

“We were doing monitoring and one of our agents alerted me that there was something going on here that is not right and so we rushed down here. To be honest with you, we’ve seen the declaration form signed but what we know is that the declaration forms must be signed after the election. We have the pictures of these pink sheets, the EC officer has admitted that he ordered them to sign but this is not part of the EC’s laws that declaration forms must be signed before voting ends.

"So we are asking Jean Mensah to change the EC boss here right now, we don’t want any chaos here," he said.

Augustus Nana Kwasi continued. "This election is a do-and-die affair and so we’re not going to sit down and allow somebody to rig this election, we are very vigilante. It is early days and we don’t want any confusion. We are asking the IGP to come down and see what they are doing, we don’t want any violence here."
