NDC NDC primaries: We need you – Mahama to defeated incumbent MPs
MAY 15, 2023 LISTEN

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has called for a united front among party folks in the campaign towards the 2024 elections.

Delivering his post-election acceptance speech at the University for Development Studies (UDS) on Monday, 15 May 2023, Mr Mahama urged members of the NDC to flip the coin from competition to cooperation following the end of the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries in order to cooperate towards building a better Ghana.

Mr Mahama said: “We need cooperation to build a better Ghana and a better NDC. I am, therefore, calling for cooperation among all elected parliamentary candidates and your aspirants and supporters.”

The NDC flagbearer further urged incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) who lost in the just-ended primaries to keep their heads up.

“Incumbent Members of Parliament who lost their primaries must also keep your heads up. You remain a hero for the good job you have done, and continue to do, for our party and country.

“We need your experience and talents for the onerous job that faces us when the good people of Ghana give us a mandate to steer the affairs of this country once more,” Mr Mahama stressed.

He continued: “Above all, we need you in the remaining one and half years of your Parliamentary mandate to carry out your duties with dedication and commitment to safeguard the interest of the Ghanaian people.

“I intend to meet with you as early as possible.”

He encouraged the MPs who were ousted that despite their loss, they must remain a part of the party.

“The party needs you, and we will continue to rely on you as we seek to win election 2024 and change the destiny of the suffering people of Ghana. We must remain one family,” Mr Mahama stated.

He also urged all members of the party to commit their energies towards working to win the 2024 elections.

“Let me emphasise and urge all of us, as members of the NDC, to re-dedicate ourselves, commit our energies and resources to work hard to win the 2024 elections. I assure you of my open-mindedness, my open-door policy, and my commitment to run a government based on merit and competence.

“Let me reaffirm my unshaken commitment to offer the needed support to our Parliamentary Candidates and all Constituencies to make certain that we secure a healthy majority in the next parliament.

He added: “We owe it as a duty to our country to do so, and we shall.”
