Tamale Airport Terminal to be commissioned in May, Kumasi International Airport Nearing completion — Transport Minister

The Ghanaian government is set to commission the Tamale Airport main and multi-purpose terminals in May, the Minister of Transport, Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has announced.

The objective is to make Ghana the aviation hub for the West African sub-region, as well as to improve connectivity, trade and tourism.

The Tamale Airport is currently undergoing Operational Readiness and Airport Transition (ORAT) to ensure that the airport is ready to handle the influx of passengers when it is commissioned.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Ministry of Information in Accra on Wednesday, March 29, the Minister said, “Works have been completed on the Tamale Airport main and multi-purpose terminals and I can tell you that it will be commissioned in the next two months.”

The new terminals at Tamale Airport are expected to significantly enhance the airport’s capacity to handle large numbers of passengers and cargo, as well as improve the overall airport experience for travelers.

The Tamale Airport is strategically located in the Northern Region of Ghana and serves as a gateway to the sub-region.

In addition to the Tamale Airport, the Minister also revealed that the Kumasi International Airport is nearing completion, with Phase II already 100% completed and Phase III 89.33% complete.

The Kumasi International Airport is set to receive passengers from outside the country and also convey passengers to other destinations abroad.

The commissioning of the Tamale and Kumasi airports is part of the government’s efforts to improve the aviation sector in Ghana and position the country as a major aviation hub in the sub-region.

The government has also invested in other infrastructure projects such as the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Airport which has been completed and commissioned.

The commissioning of the new terminals at Tamale Airport and the completion of the Kumasi International Airport will undoubtedly enhance Ghana’s connectivity and improve the country’s prospects for trade and tourism, as well as position it as a leading aviation hub in the sub-region.
