The "Roman Charity" painting is one of the most fascinating pieces of art that has been treasured for centuries.The masterpiece by Peter Paul Rubens of 1612 stays in display at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.The painting is of a woman(Pero) breast feeding an older man (Cimon).The story behind the painting is from Valerius Maximus,a writer and projects Pero secretly feeding her starving and imprisoned father Cimon with breast milk every time she visits.

This iconic painting tells how important women are and how their bosom is a channel of life. Men of all standings,great,mighty and weak,have lived off this as children and even at their old age.It is one of the few things that brings out the child,joy and life in many men . Even Jesus Christ to Prophet Muhammad have all been nourished by breast milk.

I chanced on an Arab proverb that goes "heaven on earth is to be found on horseback, reading books and between a woman's breasts".Well,how much more can I say? I am not by any means trying to sexually objectify women but this is rather to emphasize the essence of women in another way and form.

Since 1985, October has become known as Breast Cancer Awareness (Pink) Month initiated by the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries.However, it was the cosmetic company Estée Lauder that brought the Pink ribbon bit in 1992, providing 1.5 million pink ribbons as a symbol of breast cancer month.

This year is not an exception and efforts still remain focused on increasing the early detection of the disease by promoting, urging women to have mammograms and do self assessment tests so they could take charge of their breast health.Those with the cancer and survivors share their unique stories and are lionized.There is also a concerted effort to raise funds.

Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers diagnosed among women and among 1 in 8 diagnosis globally.As of 2020, there's been over 2.3 million cases and about 685,000 deaths.Women who are 50 years and older are more prone to breast cancer.

To prevent the risk of Breast Cancer,it will be prudent to avoid weight gain and if you have a high Body Mass Index,you need to make an effort to lose weight.You must maintain a healthy diet and avoid smoking and reduce alcohol intake.

As a woman,it is advisable to seek professional assistance if you notice a new lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).Thickening or swelling of part of the breast.Irritation or dimpling of breast skin.Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast and pain in the nipple area.

The breast may be a feature of a woman's body but honestly would there be men without it? Long live Ghana.Breast for life.
