Shameless political elites

Feature Article Shameless political elites
SEP 8, 2022 LISTEN

It's sad how the ruling elites that have all the answers to all the problems confronting this country when in opposition become clueless in power. The moment we gave them the power to steer the affairs of the nation, they quickly forgot all the lofty ideas they propounded as solutions to the predicaments that confront this country called Ghana.

The ruling class deliberately dissipates state resources with careless abandon and recklessly plunders the economy into a sordid state.

After succeeding in bringing the economy to its knees, they turn around to introduce new taxes, increase utility tariffs, increase prices of petroleum products, and scrap pro-poor policies and this impacts the ordinary Ghanaians negatively.

It's highly ridiculous anytime these political elites mismanaged the economy, and it's expected of any civilized leader to do is to reduce the pegs of office considerably, rather they tend to blame their inefficiencies on something far from the truth.

Most annoying is some governance experts provide fodder for this abuse and recklessness by aiding these corrupt leaders to impose hardship on the citizen by proffering solutions that affect the ordinary citizens.

We expect them to blame the government for mismanaging the economy and put pressure on government to cut down unnecessary expenditures, eg those freebies, free accommodation fuel and Drivers, free medical care abroad, ex-gratia etc.

While we also expect these prominent members in society to put pressure on the government to retrieve monies lost to corruption rather are calling for a review of policies like the Free SHS policy that would disadvantage the poor.

If GHS 3 billion to GHS 5 billion is lost to corruption annually, therefore five years on we can comfortably say GHs 15 billion to GHS 25billion may have been lost to corruption.

Meanwhile, we are made to believe only GHS 7.8 billion was expended within five years to educate 1.2 million children whose social benefits outweigh the contributions from these greedy government appointees for whom nothing beneficial is derived from the investment made in their services.

We expect those calling for the review of the Free SHS policy, to use the same energies to call on the government to review or scrapped benefits these selfish ministers and appointees appropriate to themselves.

It's alleged about GHS 5 billion is expended on this class of Ghanaians annually without any meaningful results.

The Article 71 office holders are a drain on the national resources, and the abysmal performance of those office holders can’t be overlooked. I dare say they don't merit the amount of resources being wasted on them.

Ghanaians must free themselves from the deceits and lies politicians used to divide the citizenry on tribal and political lines, and have their way to exploit state resources for their selfish needs.

Why should certain class of Ghanaians lives in luxury at the expense of the state while the majority of the citizenry are subjected to suffer in penury.

This treachery must stop.
