Of DMB: A Light On The Camp of Deceit and Intimidation! Part 1

Feature Article Of DMB: A Light On The Camp of Deceit and Intimidation! Part 1
AUG 17, 2022 LISTEN

Power like a sweet petal, attracts all kinds of people whose first preoccupation is to find some nectar for succour and a safe haven for their desires and aspirations. Indeed, the rich man has many friends and that can be said of Dr Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana whose intention to take over from his boss, President Akufo-Addo by all means fair and unfair, is no longer a hidden one.

In fact, it is trite knowledge that some 5 camps, each led by notable people have surrounded him now, seeking relevance and dominance for some juicy place including Chief of Staff position, in the government he plans to form, if ever he gets the chance to lead the NPP.

This association to the high and mighty Vice President of the republic and Head of Ghana’s Economic Management Team, extends to all other branches of government. The same urge has caused many appointees to openly declare support for the bid of the Vice President, first, to preserve their current jobs as any contrary position they take, would make them fall prey to the brute forces the all Powerful Vice President wields, in replacing them with others who’d serve his interest and second, to secure their place in his yet to be formed government.

Consequently, attempts have been made by this establishment to arrive at some rational justification to build impetus for the creation of the Dr Bawumia camp, affectionately dubbed “DMB.” These attempts include the machiavellian in cloaks of many contradictory speeches, and a draconian imposition on the New Patriotic Party, a fruit of the UP Tradition, a new tradition; “Danquah-Busiah-Dombo Tradition” whose meaning is so cut off from reality.

Indeed, many key elders of our Party in recent times have seen through the deceit and are now calling for cessation of that so divisive tradition upon which the current regime would want to force Dr Bawumia on the party in a very opportunistic manner.

Their argument has always been that Dr Bawumia represents the Dombo faction which is yet to be honored by the party. How convenient that sounds! What has been the lot of Chief Dombo’s family he left behind? Chief Dombo’s very daughter, Mama Helen is very much alive in Wa and yet has never received any delegation from Dr Bawumia or Hon Karbo, his right hand man who grew up with her sons! What honor would be more worthy of mention, like a good recognition by Dr Bawumia, for the fruits of Chief Dombo’s loins?

Another attempt to force down the Vice President onto the UP tradition that is clearly all ripe for Hon Alan Kyerematen, has been the “Digitisation Veep Tag” that actually sets the Vice President up for public ridicule.

You don’t tell your kids when they ask for food to eat now, that you’ve paid their school fees for their reformation into future responsible lives and so they have no cause to worry about food now. This has sadly been the insensitive rhetoric the Vice President subjects Ghanaians through when they ask for ease from the current hardship, only for the Vice President and Head of Economic Management team to point them to innovations like the Ghana Card.

Indeed, we all know he’d naturally cling onto his brother Prof Ken Attafuah’s great strides with the NIA for some solace at a time he’s struggling to garner some credibility for his massive failure in redeeming himself as the economic wizkid Ghanaians were promised in him, and so do demand results from.

It has not been surprising that one of his advocates in a recent article, tried (in a vain attempt to rid the man of responsibility for his role as Head of the Economic Team,) to whittle down the high perception most Ghanaians justifiably held that Dr Bawumia was the only answer to all our economic problems in the following text;

“With Ghana’s generational problems showing no signs of abating, a new approach to problem-solving is needed, which is where Bawumia’s digital revolution comes in. Digitization is not a magic answer to Ghana’s woes. Dr. Bawumia is not Houdini on a stage, nor is he Dumbledore to wave a magic wand and instantly send our country into nirvana.”

This writer shot himself in the foot and interestingly, that has always been the trading fashion of the DMB camp; they keep shooting themselves in the foot, wallowing in what the Bible calls, Contradiction of Sinners. In one vein, the writer sought to pitch DMB as the only answer to our woes with digitization, yet conveniently warns he is not a genius after all! What a shock! The Lighthouse Bishop Dag would say!!!

So far, the Vice President has employed adhoc and populist schemes just for political gains and that hugely affects the very relevance of the drive for digitization he tries to herald. The nation so far has no national digitization strategy and proper procurement framework for a holistic digitization mission. In effect what we have is the Veep, striving to take credit for the planting of many parallel schemes and agency level digitization platforms in a clear waste of tax payers’ money.

For instance, after a successful implementation of National Identification Authority’s biometric system, one would expect the Vice President who so enjoys the aura and vain praise of a self acclaimed digitization champ, to take particular interest in the very unnecessary creation of another Biometric Database by the Ministry of Communication and the NCA to serve the same Ghanaian populace but of course! That can never be the desire of a man busily commissioning duplicated agency digitization platforms for a populist agenda to be seen working!

A proper national digital transformation strategy would first see to the introduction of a Central Database and Storage system for all Public Sector Data for unison, efficiency and data validity. This is missing because the spirit of the Veep’s digitization mantra is to be seen as the brain behind something he’s proven to be bereft about!

Still on the Veep’s vain digitization drive, another superficial effect the nation suffers from, is the inability of the minority who form the State establishment, to draw the majority of Ghanaians onboard the scanty digitization exercises as it is deemed a one man with advantage’s insensitive show. Until Ghana’s digitisation drive is totally linked with the full appreciation through equipping the masses of our population and the real drivers of the economy who form the informal sector, with skills and change management modules, the current digitization mantra is bound to fail as people would continuously resist its tentacles.

Finally, I’d want to touch on an attempt by officials in advantaged positions, with vested interest in support of DMB to intimidate, victimize and impugn reputations and the very personality of all, in a cheap attempt to gag those who are seen to be exposing the lies, distortions and contortions, deceit and vain rhetorics the Veep rides on for political relevance and prominence.

These are defeatist tactics to say the least, employed by selfish people whose only preoccupation is to defend their paymasters, a people who do not care about the progress of young people and the nation Ghana at all.

Let all well meaning Ghanaians and young people especially, resist all such tactics and remember, exposing the most concealed of rots and insensitive deeds and rhetorics, is a giant step only a people of substance can take.

Ghana is all we have and hence what would be our lot if we are forced to praise people who have shown not to care for our fate as the future leaders?

A Charge to keep we Have!

A God to Glorify!

A Conscience to Appease!

A soul to save and fit for heaven!

I hope we can all be admonished by these few pages onto charting the right path for the NPP and our country Ghana, knowing to the writing of many such articles, there can be no end..

..to be continued..
