Practical Education Network, a Ghana-based NGO trained Rwandan teachers in hands-on pedagogy in the teaching of STEM subjects using locally available materials under the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Teacher Training Programme (AIMS TTP) sponsored by the MasterCard Foundation.

The training organised by AIMS TTP which took place in the southern province of Rwanda, precisely in Muhanga district attracted 185 training facilitators across the 14 Leaders in Teaching districts where the programme operates.

The workshop took the teachers through a process that equipped them with skills in improvising local materials to conduct practical activities in biology, physics, and chemistry in their classrooms.

The participants had been pre-selected to serve as Peer Facilitators to cascade the training to over 4,500 teachers in Rwanda within the AIMS-TTP network of teachers.

The AIMS TTP Programs director, Dr. Herine Otieno-Menya in her opening remarks, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to PEN for making it to Rwanda for the training and admonished the teachers to endeavour to replicate or cascade it to their colleagues.
