Just in time for the queen of England’s platinum jubilee celebrations, the powers that be in Luton have been able to schedule the long-awaited carnival to coincide with the date of the celebrations on Saturday, 4th of June 2022.
Due to the Covid related conditions the world over, the carnival had been postponed from then till this year.
Leading The Ghana Society-UK carnival procession was Mr Joseph Afrane. A professional Photojournalist who doubles as’ The queen of England’s number one fan’.
Sharing her joy and anticipation, Mariah Lovell, the former mayoress of Luton and head of The Ghana Society-UK said: “Despite the weather the atmosphere is great, exciting and one can see that it’s electrifying.
“And we are happy to be back after two years of hibernation. The spirit is good, and everybody is gearing for it, and we are here to have a fantastic time.”
Will The Ghana Society-UK be adding something different to the carnival this year, she added “Today we are celebrating culture and queendom, for the queen’s platinum jubilee.”
Mariah Lovell concluded the conversation with a smile and happiness, saying “Welcome to The Luton International Carnival, it’s lovely to be back, and I hope that everyone will feel the infectious spirit of the carnival.
“Look for the award-winning Ghana float which is the only African float in the carnival and have some fun.”
Following The Ghana Society-UK Float, full of pump and pageantry were Ghanaian carnival groups dressed in their fanciful Kente costumes, make-ups and other masquerades.
The dancing troops’ clothing gracefully exemplified the culture and traditions of Ghana.
Delivering his hosting skills was MC Clarke Pentoa at full throttle alongside DJ Edot who played very well to the admiration of some revellers, bystanders and onlookers.
The only downside to this year’s Luton International Carnival was the rain which delayed the processions, in addition to how short the carnival route was curtailed.
All in all, ‘The Luton International Carnival has bounced back from its Covid-related-hiatus.
