The University of Ghana has secured the first slot at the grand finale of the second tertiary edition of the Gas Challenge which will be held on Wednesday 24th November 2021 at Bediako Memorial Auditorium of the GNAT Hall - Accra.

The quiz team of the University of Ghana nicknamed “Propane” for the purposes of the Gas Challenge was represented by Mr. Benjamin Agyemang and Mr. Michael Dela Blavo. The team managed to beat the Regional Maritime University and the Ghana Communications Technology University at the Zone 1 contest of the second edition of the Gas Challenge.

At the end of the five-round contest, “Team Propane” (University of Ghana) was able to secure 63 to earn them a seat at the grand finale while “Team Ethane” (Regional Maritime University secured 54 points with “Team Methane” (Ghana Communications Technology University) taking the last position with 43 points.

The Head of the Ghana National Gas Company, Dr Ben Asante who was at the event opined that the challenge was geared towards bridging the gap between academia and industry and he ended by charging all participating schools to put in their best.

“In a special way, I will like to express my sincere appreciation to all participating tertiary institutions for accepting to be part of this year’s edition. The company has initiated this competition in order to create awareness of gas-related matters among the relevant national stakeholders and specifically bridge the gap between academia and industry”

The University of Ghana team is expected to meet the winners of both Zone 2 and Zone 3 at the finals of the Gas Challenge.

The slated date for the Zone two of the Gas Challenge which will be held in Kumasi is Tuesday 2nd November 2021 at the College of Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Participants of Zone 2 of the Gas Challenge are Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, All Nations University and University of Energy and Natural resources.

Also, members of Zone 3 who are expected to battle it out for a seat at the grand finale are the University of Mines and Technology, the University of Cape Coast and Takoradi Technical University. The contest will be held on Wednesday 10th of November 2021 at Takoradi Technical University Auditorium.

Winners of the three zones will be expected to face off at the finals which will be held in Accra.
