Evangelical Presbyterian University College to start farming, bottled water production - Prof Bakah

President of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College-Ho (EPUC), Professor Edem Kwasi Bakah says, EPUC will begin commercial activities like farming, bottled water production among other activities to generate enough income for the institution.

This was contained in his investiture address, as the 3rd President of the Premier University in Ho, last Friday (March 26, 2021), at the E.P Church, Dela Cathedral, Ho-Kpodzi.

Having identified some challenges of the University upon resuming duty on February 1, 2021, Professor Bakah in his 32 minutes Address titled “This is the Time”, during the ground breaking ceremony, outlined a number of plans to help curb the financial instability of the Institution.

“There is the need for us to generate enough income for our operational cost and also assume fully our Cooperate Social Responsibility towards the church and the society at large. Aside relying on school fees, we will introduce innovation, hands-on and job-oriented academic courses; resource all academic departments and schools to engage in income generating activities; establish a Business Development Centre under the office of the President to coordinate all major income generating activities including consultancy and extension services.

“We will engage in commercial activities, farming, bottled water production etc; organize both local and international fund-raising events; engage in grantsmanship to win both national and international research projects; and establish a credit union to generate income for the University College and also to support Staff.”

Professor Edem Kwasi Bakah was appointed by the Governing Council of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College -Ho, to replace Dr Kenneth Nyalemegbe who was acting. He is to ensure that the University stands out among other private universities across the country and beyond.

Brief Background

With rich experience in Academia, Professor Bakah’s main research areas include Discourse Analysis in French, Academic Writing, Teaching and Learning of French as a Foreign Language and Language for Specific Purposes. He has twenty-six (26) peer-reviewed academic publications to his credit.

He has equally served and continue to serve the University Community in various capacities: e.g. Member of UCC Governing Council, Academic Board, Board of Convocation, Doctoral Committee of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Faculty of Arts Board, Faculty of Arts Coordinating Committee for Doctoral Studies and Faculty of Arts Editorial Board, Head of Department of French, Academic Advisor for undergraduate and postgraduate students, Examination Officer and Coordinator for Departmental Seminars and Research.

Professor Bakah has also been an External Examiner for the Departments of French in the following universities: University of Education, Winneba, University of Ghana, Legon and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
