What you should know about the Savannah Regional Minister, Mr. Saeed Muaz Jibril

BIODATA

He was born in Damongo on 11th July 1969 to Mallam Alhassan Seidu Sakara and Mma Soale Dari both of blessed memory. Paternally, he hails from Larabanga, an almost 100% Muslim community that houses the ancient mosque in Ghana and the Mysterious stone. His maternal home is Damongo.

Born into a polygynous home, Saeed Muaz Jibril is the fifth(5) child of his father's thirteen(13) children and second from his mother's womb. He understands and speaks fluently Twi, Gonja, Hausa, Wali, English, Kamara. He is married with five(5) children.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

In tandem with the dictates of societies of mechanical solidarity and the practice of parents giving out thier wards to other parents to cater for, though, on a low profile in recent times, Muaz was given out to Alhaji Mbemah in Larabanga, one of his paternal uncles who was an Islamic cleric of immense repute to teach him the religion of Islam. He had to return to Damongo to stay with his father after the Alhaji Mbemah died in 1979. This gave him the opportunity to taste Western education because while in Larabanga he concentrated on only the Arabic/ Islamic education as was the main purpose for which he was sent there. He was first enrolled in the Nuriya E/ A primary school( Now Falahiyat E/ A primary school) in 1979 in Damongo. He moved to Middle Day No. 2 in 1984. Mr. Saeed Muaz Jibril proceeded to Damongo Senior High School in 1985 and completed in 1990 and obtained General Certificate in Education( Ordinary Level). After passing all his papers, he furthered to the Bagabaga College of Education where he was trained as a classroom teacher. As passionate as he is in pursuing education, he entered the University of Cape Coast in 2000 and successfully completed in 2003 and awarded a Bachelors of Eduaction degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He also holds a masters degree in Human Resource Planning and Development from GGS Indraprastha University- New Delhi, India.

*WORK EXPERIENCE*

Trained as a professional teacher, he started teaching in 1996 and spent twenty four(24) years with Ghana Education Service as a teacher in Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School in Damongo. Whiles with Ghana Education Service, Mr. Muaz served in various capacities such as the Sports and Health master, Housemaster, form master, Senior HouseMaster and Assistant Headmaster( Academic). Most students who passed through his hands will attest to his prowess in handling and demistifying Biology and Integrated Science. By dint of his hardwork and how capable he was in handling the science subjects, he was adjudged the West Gonja district overall best teacher and best science teacher in 1997 and 1999 respectively and a regional runner up in 1999. He was appointed the Municipal Chief Executive of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly in 2017 and left office in 2021.

*POLITICAL LIFE*

Mr. Saeed Muaz Jibril has been a politician since the day and time he was able to distinguish between right and wrong and has associated himself with the New Patriotic Party in the then Damongo/ Daboya constituency at a very tender age. In the early days of the fourth republic, he was one of the few literates in Damongo who defied all the odds and mustered the courage to publicly get involved in the activities of the New Patriotic Party in the Damongo/ Daboya constituency because of the stereotypes associated with it at that time. Evidently, he spent most of his time working for the party at the constituency level.

He held the positions of constituency youth organiser ( 1996-2000) constituency financial Secretary ( 2000-2004) and constituency Secretary( 2005-2009) of the Damongo/ Daboya constituency. He ably led the New Patriotic Party as its campaign manager for the previous Damongo/Daboya constituency from 1996- 2004 and was part of the constituency and northern regional research team of the NPP from 2000 to 2008.

Mr. Saeed Muaz Jibril contested on three occasions the Damongo constituency parliamentary primaries of the NPP in 2008, 2012 and 2016 lost marginally. President Akuffo Addo appointed him as his northern regional campaign Cordinator for the presidential primaries of the NPP in 2008, 2014. Evidently, his political works is not only limited to the New Patriotic Party.

He has spent eight (12) years with the West Gonja district assembly as first as an appointed member of the assembly ( 2000-2004) and second as a an elected member of assembly for the Zongo/ Langbonto electoral area. He was also appointed the Municipal Chief Executive of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly in 2017 and he left office in 2021.

HOBBIES

He loves reading books and watching football. He is an ardent supporter of Arsenal Football Club.
