The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency has vowed to reclaim the Parliamentary seat in the next general elections.

The seat was occupied by Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi from 2016 to 2020. Unfortunately after losing in the December 7 general election last year, Hon. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken over.

Now watching from the fence, the NPP in the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency have decided not to relent but stay focused on reclaiming the seat in 2024.

“We take this opportunity to promise our teeming supporters and sympathisers that, we shall make all efforts to reclaim the seat for the NPP in the next election.

“This we are convinced will be an easy decision for the electorate based on the performance of the immediate past MP and that of the current MP which we believe will be nothing to write home about,” a press release from the communications department of the NPP in the Constituency said on Monday.

Addressing accusation from the NDC in the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency that Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Isaac Dasmani is allegedly sabotaging Hon. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, the NPP says they are all false.

“We want to state emphatically that, the MCE has no intention whatsoever to sabotage the current MP or anybody else insofar as the development of the municipality is concerned,” other parts of the press release reads.

Meanwhile, the NPP in the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency is urging the new MP, Robert Wisdom Cudjoe to concentrate on lobbying to attract needed development to the Constituency.

Press Release

Wednesday, 17th February 2021

We bring you warm greetings from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) fraternity in the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency and from Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Esq., former Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency.

The NPP family in the constituency went into the 2020 Parliamentary and Presidential elections very optimistic of consolidating its gains made during and after the 2016 election when constituents reposed in us their confidence and elected Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Esq., to represent the constituency from 2016 to 2020. Unfortunately we did not realise our objective as we lost the 2020 election.

It is a known fact that Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Esq., is by far the best MP this constituency has ever had. She invested heavily in this constituency through her own resources, efficient utilization of common fund and effective lobbying skills.

The constituency was always her priority and she never deviated from that. Her footprints in terms of projects across the constituency is a worthy legacy which will arguably be a daunting task for her successors to emulate. We shall be observing with keen interest.

Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Esq., although has lost her status as the MP for the constituency and her Ministerial appointment consequently, has made a solemn promise to the good people of the constituency to continue to advance the interest of constituents as she has always done. We recall her pledge to complete all projects she commenced prior to the 2020 elections. A few of those projects have subsequently been completed and same commissioned by her goodself. This is a clear indication of her commitment to the people of Prestea/Huni Valley.

We take this opportunity to promise our teaming supporters and sympathisers that, we shall make all efforts to reclaim the seat for the NPP in the next election. This we are convinced will be an easy decision for the electorate based on the performance of the immediate past MP and that of the current MP which we believe will be nothing to write home about.

We have also noticed with dismay a vile propaganda agenda by our current MP, Hon. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) through its affiliated media house, a claim of sabotage on the part of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD). We want to state emphatically that, the MCE has no intention whatsoever to sabotage the current MP or anybody else insofar as the development of the municipality is concerned. Indeed, the only correlation between any Asssembly and the MP is the MP's Common Fund which is 5% of the total Common Fund allocated to the assembly or municipality. Laws governing the common fund charges MMDCEs to have oversight supervision over the disbursement and subsequent utilization of the MPs Common Fund. This is to check misapplication of the MP's portion of the fund. If this is the sabotage the current MP and the NDC make reference to then the MCE we know will any day choose the law over misappropriation. It is however interesting to note that no payment of 2021 Common Fund has been effected to even justify this assertion of sabotage.

We will encourage the MP, to concentrate more on lobbying, if he has the capacity, to bring the needed development to his constituents just as Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi Esq., did during her tenure.

The communication directorate of the NPP will be monitoring his activities during his tenure to ensure the development of this constituency.

Thank you.

Long live Ghana

Long live Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency

Long live NPP.

Signed.
