Are Kpessa-Whyte and Mettle-Nunoo this Scandalously Naïve? – Part 1

Are Kpessa-Whyte and Mettle-Nunoo this Scandalously Nave? – Part 1
17.02.2021 LISTEN

I have not been studiously following the Mahama 2020 Presidential-Election Petition for two important reasons. One, because I sincerely believe that this copycat petition was primarily launched purely for the spectacle that it provides and then to unnecessarily distract public attention from the progressive policy initiatives and the generally impressive national development agenda of the Akufo-Addo-led government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). And two, because I have been much too busy attending to the duties and requirements of the job that provides me and my family our livelihood. But, of course, the general business of the State and the fate and development of my parents-land, as it were, are much too important for me to think of completely disengaging from the same. So, I have been fairly regularly gleaning from media reports and commentaries on the major happenings in the country.

In the latest of such reports, we have a Mahama Star Witness by the name of Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte tell the Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah-presided Supreme Court of Ghana (SCOG) that he, Dr. Kpessa-Whyte, and his colleague, another Mahama Key Witness by the name of Mr. Joseph “Rojo” Mettle-Nunoo, a former cabinet appointee, had vacated their specially assigned places/seats in the “Strongroom” of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on the day that the results of the 2020 General Election began to trickle in, because the very Chief Returning Officer or Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, namely, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, whom they had been dispatched by the Petitioner, that is, former President John “Expedition-Kanazoe” Dramani Mahama, to meticulously and vigilantly police, for abject lack of trust and confidence in her on the part of the operatives of the National Democratic Congress, had sent them out of the EC’s “Strongroom” at the very moment when their presence mattered most, to consult with the then-Candidate Mahama over the possible and amicable resolution of some concerns that the predictable and apparent loser of the 2020 Presidential Election had vis-à-vis the validity and credibility of the same.

Now, this pretext or subterfuge, or however the critically thinking observer chooses to envisage the same, is nothing short of curious and downright farcical, not the least bit because both Messrs. Kpessa-Whyte and Mettle-Nunoo are well-educated and seasoned politicians who are highly unlikely to have taken such electorally suspicious bait and marching order from the much younger Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission. But, of course, it equally significantly bears pointing out the fact that both Messrs. Kpessa-Whyte and Mettle-Nunoo are politicians and operatives of the National Democratic Congress with questionable performance profiles in government. For instance, as Head of the National Service Secretariat (NSS) and Scheme, Dr. Kpessa-Whyte had not acquitted himself creditably and left a far deeper and greater mess behind than he had inherited, as I vividly recall. Likewise, as a Deputy Cabinet Appointee, Mr. Mettle-Nunoo was widely known to have been in cahoots with several South American Drug Cartel Operatives, with the overt and tacit complicity of the leadership of the Rawlings-led National Democratic Congress, including the provision of safe haven for some of these Mega-Drug Traffickers who were international contraband-toting fugitives.

Then also, Mr. Mettle-Nunoo was widely alleged by the media to have been in the business of providing Ghanaian sex workers and professional prostitutes to these Latin-American Drug Cartel Kingpins. This may be partly what he meant, when the late President Jerry John Rawlings publicly expressed regret over the fact that the Rawlings Revolution, so-called, had produced leaders and characters who were far worse than “The Generals whom I personally executed.” This, obviously, is also an integral party of the much-touted Rawlings Legacy, of course. At any rate, in his masterful cross-examination of the Mahama Star Witness, the lawyer for the First Respondent of the Mahama 2020 Presidential-Election Petition, Mr. Justin Amenuvor, pointedly exposed the clearly dastardly attempt by the Mahama Posse’s Trumpian attempt to criminally undermine the credibility and integrity of Ghanaian democracy, unarguably the finest of its kind on the African Continent. Mr. Amenuvor told the Anin-Yeboah-presided Supreme Court of Ghana that Messrs. Kpessa-Whyte and Mettle-Nunoo left the “Strongroom” of the IEC at precisely the very moment that these two Mahama point-men did because it was and had become irredeemably and hopelessly obvious that the Presidential Candidate of the country’s main opposition National Democratic Congress had been handily routed by the incumbent President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Consequently, concocting the shallow pretext that the EC’s Chairperson had admonished Messrs. Kpessa-Whyte and Mettle-Nunoo to consult with Candidate Mahama vis-à-vis any concerns that the clear loser of the 2020 Presidential Election may have had with the outcome or results of that landmark electoral process was purely a crappy subterfuge aimed at diffusing the anger and desperation of the epic loser of the 2020 Presidential Election by conveniently scapegoating Mrs. Mensa, instead of faulting Messrs. Kpessa-Whyte and Mettle-Nunoo, Trumpian style, for inexcusably “not finding the vote” or woefully failing to intimidate or strongarm the IEC’s Chair into fraudulently calling the results of the 2020 Presidential Election in favor of the clear loser, even as Mr. Mahama’s own NDC’s dynastic General-Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia had sheepishly maintained in the wake of the 2012 Presidential Election.
