Savannah Region: NDC ignore police injunction, hit street to protest against election results

Some supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savannah Region today took to the streets of Buipe in the Central Gonja district to protest the outcome of the 2020 elections.

This was despite police securing an injunction on the demonstration.

The protesters led by the first National Vice Chairman of the party, chief of Azorka, and the Savannah Regional executives burned lorry tires on the Buipe Tamale highway amidst chanting war songs saying ‘no Mahama, no peace’.

They say Ghanaians voted for John Mahama and he must be declared the winner of the elections or there will be no peace in Ghana.

Some of the supporters told Citi News: “we are demonstrating against the results of the flawed election conducted by the EC. This is a call on the commission to rescind its decision and go through the right procedure, re-collate the results and declare the results in favour of the NDC,” a supporter said.

“The EC has deceived Ghanaians. Mahama is the rightful winner of the presidential elections. Madam Jean Mensah, come again because we will not accept these results. No Mahama no peace,” another shared.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP)- elect for Kintampo North, Joseph Kuma, wants the National Peace Council to mediate the re-collation of 2020 election results.

“The EC alone cannot dictate the fate of this country. The National Peace Council should come out and strengthen calls for a re-collation of results. It will bring a great injustice if this is not done. There is no need for court proceedings, we only want the results collated, when it turns out that the NDC has lost, we will accept our fate.”
