2025 Ahorbaa Kese Festival launched to celebrate history and culture

The Gomoa Assin Traditional Council, led by Omanhene Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has officially launched the 2025 Ahorbaa Kese Festival.

This momentous occasion is a celebration of the heroism and sacrifices of their forefathers, particularly Agya Ahor, who gave his life to save his people from a pandemic. The festival, scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 31, 2025, across 126 communities, marks a significant milestone in the history of the Gomoa traditional area.

"We need to remember and celebrate our forefathers who fought for our freedom extensively," Omanhene Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II emphasized during the launch. "Their sacrifices will not be in vain, and we must honor their legacy by coming together as one people."

This year's festival is particularly special, as it will be the first time the entire Gomoa Assin Traditional Council will celebrate the Ahorbaa Kese Festival collectively.

The Omanhene also expressed deep concern over the rising prevalence of drug abuse and teenage pregnancy in the country. He urged the youth to focus on education and personal development, rather than chasing temporary pleasures that can derail their progress.

"The future of our youth is bright, but it requires discipline, hard work, and dedication," he said. "Let us steer clear of illicit drugs and premature relationships, and instead, strive for excellence in all we do."

The Omanhene called for extensive collaboration from stakeholders to ensure the success of the festival. "The Ahorbaa Kese Festival is not just a celebration of our past, but also a celebration of our present and future," Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II said. "Let us come together to honor our forefathers and shape the future of our youth. Together, we can make a difference and build a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come."

In an interview with this portal, Nana Kumasah Krampah II, Omankrado of Gomoa Asempanyi and Divisional Omankrado of the Gomoa Assin Akyempim Traditional Area, called on individuals living in the diaspora to reconnect to their roots through the festival.

"I want to urge all community leaders, individuals, and people from Gomoa who are currently in the diaspora to come back home. It will be important to have them reconnect to where they began their life's journey and pay homage to their ancestors," he stated.

He also called on corporate entities and individuals to come onboard to support the various celebrations, indicating opportunities for exposing their services and goods.

As part of the celebrations, the council has outlined several activities, including general cleansing, outdoor activities, and community engagements. And most importantly, revered chiefs and leaders would engage the various communities on the history behind Gomoa and its successful culture, traditions and among others.

These activities are geared towards ensuring a successful festival celebration and promoting unity and development in the traditional area.
