
From a humble beginning in a deprived Piina Community Senior Secondary School in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region, to wining the prestigious Netherlands fellowships, Dr. ZUOBOG PHILIP Neri becomes the first student of the Piina SHS to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy Degree.
Education
Dr. Zuobog Philip Neri holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Technology from the University for Development Studies, Tamale. He earned an MPhil in Agricultural Economics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. He further pursued a Master of Science in Management of Development, specializing in Rural Development and Food Security, at the prestigious Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. Additionally, he undertook studies at the renowned Wageningen University and Research, also in the Netherlands.
Professional Career
Dr. Zuobog began his professional journey as a teacher after obtaining a three-year post-secondary Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ from Tumu College of Education. His career spans national governments, international organizations, NGOs, and the corporate sector. He served as Policy Advisor on Cocoa and Agribusiness at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Accra, under the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this role, he provided critical policy guidance on cocoa and agribusiness issues, leading high-level stakeholder engagements with institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, European Union Delegation in Ghana, African Development Bank, other diplomatic missions, and the Government of Ghana. Prior to his diplomatic role, Dr. Zuobog was a Technical Officer at the Ghana Cocoa Board’s Cocoa Health and Extension Division. He also served as the Programming and Training Specialist for the Agriculture sector with the United States Peace Corps in Ghana. His experience includes lecturing at the Anglican University College of Technology and working with the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Currently, Dr. Zuobog is the Programme Manager at Fairtrade Africa, leading the German Government’s International Climate Initiative (IKI)-funded Partnership for Deforestation-Free Cocoa Supply Chains in Ghana project. Alongside his professional commitments, he is also a practicing farmer with farms located in the Upper West and Ashanti Regions of Ghana.
Community Service
During his time at Tumu College of Education, Dr. Zuobog served as the SRC President. In 2010, he was elected Assembly Member for the Tapumu/Chetu Electoral Area, representing his community at the Lambussie District Assembly
Future Plans
Despite numerous calls, particularly from the people of the Lambussie Constituency, for him to contest a political office, Hon. Dr. Zuobog Philip Neri has stated that his immediate focus is on inspiring, mentoring, and supporting young people who, like him, come from challenging backgrounds. He is committed to using his professional achievements to make a meaningful impact by addressing the root causes of poverty in his community. Dr. Zuobog believes that, for now, his education, professional experience, and extensive networks will enable him to contribute more effectively outside the formal political arena.
