Forty students have gained admission to pursue various Master of Technology (MTech) degrees at Takoradi Technical University for the first time in the history of the institution which started as a government technical institute in 1954.
The first batch of graduate students joined 3674 newly-admitted students offered admission for various non-tertiary, Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programmes to take the matriculation oath for official commencement of academic work.
The total of 3714 matriculants for the 2017/2018 academic year shows an increase from the previous year's 3425, a trend the university hopes to maintain in the coming years, according to its registrar, Sylvia Oppong-Mensah.
In his address, the vice chancellor, Prof. John Frank Eshun, said the admission of Master of Technology students is an indication of the university's preparedness to offer students a smooth progression to the graduate level on its campuses by strengthening its existing faculties, namely Applied Arts and Technology, Engineering, Business and Management Studies, Applied Sciences as well as Built and Natural Environment.
Takoradi Technical University, formerly Takoradi Polytechnic, currently has three campuses: Effiakuma (Takoradi), Butumagyebu (Sekondi) and the new Akatakyi campus (Agona-Nkwanta) which is the largest of the three, with an acreage of 152.3.
